Government, Military and Veterans Affairs
Room 1507 – 1:30 PM

SUPPORT: LB508          *NAGO PRIORITY BILL*
Introducer: Hunt
Description: Change provisions relating to the deployment of the Nebraska National Guard and require the Governor to review current deployments

Statement of Intent: *LB 508, known as the “Defend the Guard Act”, would require a Congressional declaration of war before Nebraska’s National Guardsmen and women could be deployed to active duty combat on foreign soil.
The bill does NOT prevent foreign deployments of the Guard for training purposes ordeployments within the United States.*

More Information: NAGO has been supportive of the Defend the Guard Act for several years! This is the first year sponsors have been able to get a commitment from a senator to introduce this legislation. DON’T LET THE INTRODUCING SENATOR CAUSE YOU TO OPPOSE THIS BILL. If you believe in the US Constitution and the REQUIREMENT for a declaration of war by Congress, you should support LB508.
