From EPIC Option:
“Since both hearings are on Wednesday, we now can focus primarily on that first hearing. The instructions for writing Gov. Pillen remain the same as do the instructions for writing the Revenue Committee. We no longer need to worry about the Executive Board
If you haven’t done so already, please write Gov. Pillen a sympathetic email encouraging him to eliminate, not just reduce the property tax, making his tax relief permanent. You may back up your plea for Gov. Pillen to adopt EPIC with your own painful story, for instance losing your home, farm, or ranch, at:
jim.pillen@nebraska.gov
You will be advocating for all three measures as a package with emphasis on LR4CA and LR5CA. Those need to be on the ballot in November so Nebraskan’s can vote on them. Passage of both measures in the election will eliminate Nebraska property taxes (and state income taxes inckluding the inheritance tax), forcing the Unicameral in the spring to implements LB 16 or something similar. You may convey the same information that you sent to the governor to the Revenue Committee. The difference is that you will have a chance to present your testimony in person. Time is limited — you will have only three minutes to present your testimony. We suggest you type it, single spaced, on a single sheet of paper. You must state your name and address when you present. Spell out your name. This should be included in your written testimony as well, up front so you can read it.”
The hearing is:
9:30 AM, Wednesday, July 31, Room 1524, Revenue Committee
Resolutions: LR 4CA and LR 5CA as well as Bill: LB 16
The resolutions are as described above, and the bill is the implementation, or “nuts and bolts” bill. Your job is just to tell the committee why you need EPIC. You will have only three minutes. If you wish to email the committee members ahead of the hearing, you may use these addresses:
Sen. Lou Ann Linehan, Chair – llinehan@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Brad Von Gillern, Vice Chair – bvongillern@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Joni Albrecht – jalbrecht@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Eliot Bostar – ebostar@leg.ne.gov
Sen. George Dungan – gdungan@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Kathleen Kauth – kkauth@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Fred Meyer – fmeyer@leg.ne.gov
Sen. Dave Murman – dmurman@leg.ne.gov
The State Capitol is located at:
1445 K Street
Lincoln, NE 68508
Once again, your own story supporting the elimination of the property tax will be very helpful.
You also may write to your Nebraska Senator. This email will be more relevant once the legislation is out of committee. To find your senator, go to this link:
