More Information:
We oppose LB1343 because it is removing the term limit for the Inspector General, we don’t see an issue with having the executive board in charge of the appointment. If the term limit was reinstated, we would be neutral.

More Information:
1- There is a lack of hard evidence that licensing works to protect the public to a degree that would justify these costs and more evident as of late suggesting that licensing delivers no benefit and instead serves primarily to protect private interests. Go figure.
2-Licensing’s most direct and obvious negative effects are the costs imposed on workers, both those in and those aspiring to work in this field. (Compared to certified positions that are currently available). These costs can include not only the time and money but also tuition and often student debt for required schooling.
3- Licensing also reduces employment and majorly entrepreneurial opportunities, which we should be huge advocates for and it does so by design. People who cannot meet requirements or who cannot afford or choose not to are simply shut out. ( and in this day and age with the economy cost is top priority and why trade jobs are getting more attention as of late ).
4- Licensing also serves as a barrier to workers moving across state lines and to those changing occupations. Making it less appealing. Also limiting being able to work virtually, as many others do

Judiciary
Room 1113 – 1:30 PM
OPPOSE: LB1109
Introducer: Riepe
Description: Provide an exception under the Preborn Child Protection Act to allow an abortion after twelve weeks in the case of a fatal fetal anomaly and change and eliminate certain penalty provisions relating to abortions

More Information:
The first change in the LB1109 states that a violation of the act is not a violation –
“An abortion that is performed in violation of the Preborn Child Protection Act that otherwise used accepted medical procedures is not a violation of this section.“
There’s room for interpretation that any “accepted medical procedure” is not a violation.
This bill completely defeats the purpose of the 12 week ban, allowing for abortion at any point if 2 physicians agree there is a fetal anomaly.
